A judge’s rule that says Samsung must share its upcoming phone and tablet devices with Apple in regards to an ongoing patent lawsuit has given Samsung the perfect idea to compete with Apple’s next round of iOS devices.
Samsung has filed a request in federal court trying to convince a judge to order Apple to give Samsung’s counsel access to unreleased versions of the iPhone and iPad as part of a patent dispute between the two. Samsung filed the expedited discovery request at the end of May and wants the devices and packaging turned over by June 13.
US District Court Judge Lucy Koh previously ordered Samsung to give Apple’s counsel access to the Droid Charge, Galaxy S II and Infuse 4G smartphones, and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1. Apple sought these products to see if it should include them in an injunction against products it alleges infringe upon its patents. Samsung has 30 days to comply.
The main difference between the two is that Apple is seeking announced products and Samsung is seeking unannounced and unconfirmed products — though, there is no doubt a new iPhone and iPad are in the works.
