We’ve been covering TiVo from the beginning and the financial outlook has never been worse, not even when it lost the DirecTV account.
TiVo had only two million customers left at the end of the fourth quarter after losing 222,000 subscribers in the fourth quarter, TiVo had only two million customers left at the end of the year. Its subscriber-acquisition costs increased 42% during the quarter.
Legally it’s either winning or losing the suit for patent infringement it has against Dish, depending on the day you ask. Motorola Mobility has recently sued TiVo over patents, adding to TiVo’s legal woes.
The good news is that recent deals with Virgin Media, ONO, Charter, RCN and Suddenlink to use TiVo technology could begin a brighter era.
For the quarter TiVo reported a net loss of $34.4 million compared to $10 million a year ago and revenues declined to $41.4 million from $45.3 million last year.
