Motorola Says Xoom Tablets Selling ‘Relatively Well’

Motorola Mobility said sales of its Xoom tablets at Verizon Wireless started “relatively well,” according to CEO Sanjay Jha at a meeting of analysts. He said Motorola intends to launch more tablets based on the Honeycomb version of the Android OS and to sell them through other carriers too. He did not name any other carriers.

The Xoom is a big test for non-iPads because it’s the first to use Honeycomb, which Google said is intended specifically for tablets.

Jha said Motorola is negotiating with other companies that are interested in Xoom because it can be adapted to their specific needs and is more customizable, no doubt comparing it to the iPad.

He also said Motorola is going to acquire small software companies that can help the company differentiate its Android tablet from those made by Samsung, HTC and others.
